In a Reddit post and later a series of tweets on his personal page, Buterin revealed the "proof-of-concept" for his technology and claimed that there were many ideas for integrating it into Ethereum.
Sharding is a solution to scale the network by increasing the number of transactions that the blockchain can handle. Designed to be used "on-chain", many computers will divide the workload between them, thereby helping to increase the number of transactions that can be processed in the same period.
The time used to "shard" a block, which is divided between groups of computers, will be about 10 seconds, Buterin estimated.
