**Deutsche Bank partners with Fraunhofer Institute to explore blockchain for supply chain management**
Deutsche Bank has partnered with the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology (FIT) to explore the use of blockchain technology for supply chain management.
The two organizations will work together to develop new processes and insights into the future of physical supply chains, as well as the potential for blockchain-based technology to improve efficiency and security.
“We are working on several projects and in a number of consortiums also with other international banks on the digitisation of bank products and bank services, and on applications for blockchain technologies,” said Dr. Bernd Laber, Deutsche Bank’s group executive for corporate trade finance and cash management. “As a corporate bank the focus on future supply chains of our customers is of paramount importance and we will develop this in co-operation with Fraunhofer Institute.”
The partnership is the latest in a series of moves by Deutsche Bank to explore the potential of blockchain technology. In January, the bank announced a joint venture with IBM to develop a blockchain-based platform for trade finance.
In March, Deutsche Bank also joined the R3 consortium, a group of financial institutions working together to develop a common blockchain platform for the financial industry.
