**LG Uplus, KDDI Join Cross-Carrier Blockchain Consortium**
LG Uplus and KDDI have joined the Cross-Border Interoperable Blockchain Consortium (CBSG), a group of global telecoms firms working to develop a cross-carrier blockchain platform and ecosystem.
The CBSG was established in September last year by SoftBank, Sprint, Deutsche Telekom, and Vodafone, with the aim of creating a blockchain-based platform that would allow telecoms customers to make payments, roam their mobile wallets, and send remittances across borders.
In a statement, Wonseok Cho, vice president of LG Uplus, said that the company joined the CBSG “to provide differentiated services by security transparency, security, and real-time transactions.”
The CBSG has already demonstrated a cross-carrier blockchain payment system that allows users to top up their phone bills, roam their mobile wallets, and send remittances. The group plans to trial a blockchain platform to power mobile wallet roaming among Japanese and Taiwanese travelers in 2018.
The new members are expected to pilot the CBSG’s existing blockchain use cases in their businesses.
