Bakkt, a cryptocurrency exchange owned by Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), will delist 19 DeFi tokens, including AAVE, Avalanche, Bancor, Basic Attention Token, Chainlink, Chiliz, Compound, Cosmos, Curve, Enjin Coin, Fantom, Filecoin, Gala, The Graph, Internet Computer, Loopring, MakerDao, Republic, Stellar, Sushiswap, Synthetix, Tezos, and Uniswap.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the exchange said:
"Following the completion of our acquisition of APEX Crypto and as part of our ongoing digital asset listing process, we have made the decision to delist certain digital assets on the Bakkt platform.
Our customers and their interests are our top priority, and we are constantly evaluating our business to ensure that we are providing them with the best possible experience in a rapidly evolving regulatory and industry landscape."
Bakkt acquired APEX Crypto in November of last year and the deal officially closed on April 1, 2023. Under the terms of the agreement, Bakkt will buy APEX for a maximum price of $200 million, depending on Apex's ability to meet certain financial targets. The exchange has already paid $55 million to close the deal and will pay the remaining $145 million over the next three years.
The deal marked Bakkt's "pivot" away from the retail segment and towards a B2B model focused on institutional trading. The exchange has struggled financially in recent years, and its parent company ICE was forced to write down $1.4 billion of its investment in Bakkt in 2022.
In its most recent financial results, Bakkt reported revenue of $13 million in the first quarter of 2023, which is still below the company's average revenue of $15 million per quarter. Bakkt's stock price has increased by 3.45% since the beginning of this year, but is down by nearly 40% over the past six months.
