Riot Blockchain has agreed to take over Bit Digital’s mining operations in New York, the companies announced Wednesday.
As part of the transition, Riot will acquire Bit Digital’s 4,600 mining machines and 800 megawatts (MW) of power capacity at the Whinstone facility in Massena, New York. Riot will also purchase Bit Digital’s 100% equity interest in Whinstone.
The deal is expected to close in the third quarter of 2022.
“This transaction represents a significant growth opportunity for Riot and further validates our strategy of expanding our operations in North America,” said Jason Les, CEO of Riot Blockchain. “We believe that the Whinstone facility is one of the best-positioned mining facilities in the world, and we look forward to working with Bit Digital to integrate their operations into ours.”
Bit Digital said that the deal will allow it to focus on its mining operations in Texas.
“We are pleased to enter into this agreement with Riot Blockchain, which will allow us to further strengthen our presence in Texas,” said Bryan Bullett, CEO of Bit Digital. “We believe that this transaction is in the best interests of our shareholders and will allow us to continue to grow our business.”
