**Patrick Spens, who previously served as the FCA's Head of Digital Innovation, joins PwC as a Senior Partner.**
Spens will be responsible for developing PwC's blockchain strategy and driving the firm's efforts to help clients understand and adopt the technology.
**In a statement, Michael Rendell, PwC’s transformation and innovation leader, said:**
"We anticipate growing demand from right across our client base for help understanding the implications and potential applications of blockchain, and Patrick is one of the UK’s leading blockchain experts."
**Spens' appointment comes as PwC continues to invest heavily in blockchain technology.**
In January, the firm announced that it had established an office focused on FinTech in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
The firm said that it expects to grow the size of this team to 40 members over the course of 2016.
