Former U.S. Comptroller of the Currency Brian Brooks has joined the board of digital asset custodian Protego Trust.
Brooks, who is currently the CEO of mining firm Bitfury Group, was appointed acting Comptroller of the Currency in May 2020 by then-President Donald Trump. He served in the role until January 2021, when he resigned after being passed over for the permanent position.
Prior to his time at the OCC, Brooks was chief legal officer for crypto exchange Coinbase.
Protego Trust was granted a conditional federal charter by the OCC in 2021, which allows it to custody digital assets.
The company's board is chaired by Colette Taylor, the former CEO and chair of Russell Investment Trust Company.
Other board members include former Ally Financial CEO Michael Carpenter; retired Rear Admiral Danelle Barrett; Brian Golob, the former CEO of Russell Capital; Windham Capital Management President and CEO Mark Kritzman; David Straus, founder of Seattle's Fortune Bank; and Jamie Selway, former head of institutional markets at Blockchain.
