**Poly Network hacker returns stolen funds after delay**
The hacker or hackers who stole $610 million from Poly Network have returned the majority of the funds after initially delaying the release of the private key to unlock the remaining assets.
In a note posted to Twitter by Chinese reporter Colin Wu, the attacker or attackers said they had decided to return the funds after Tether, the developer of the dollar-linked stablecoin USDT, froze $33 million worth of the stolen funds.
“In my selfish view, the story is tainted by the locked USDT. It would have been a perfect example of building trust between anonymous ‘adversaries’ by leveraging the power of smart contract,” the hacker or hackers wrote.
The hack is considered the largest of its kind in decentralized finance (DeFi), highlighting the risks for investors and traders in the crypto sector.
