A new study by Coinbase found that more than 1 in 4 college students (28%) are interested in taking a cryptocurrency or blockchain course. The study, which surveyed 735 students ages 16 and older, also found that twice as many university students (18%) took a crypto or blockchain course in 2022 compared to 2021.
Of note, Coinbase found that 70% of crypto or blockchain courses were not offered in computer science departments. Instead, they were offered in other departments such as finance, economics, law, and engineering.
The study also found that student clubs are a major driver of academic interest in crypto and blockchain. Coinbase found that 41 of the 50 universities surveyed had student-run groups related to crypto or blockchain.
“This interest in studying crypto at colleges and universities speaks volumes about the future of money,” said the Coinbase post.
