Coinbase, the largest cryptocurrency exchange in the United States, has appointed Paul Hook as its new chief compliance officer. Hook replaces Caitlin Barnett, who left the company to join Chainalysis as director of regulation & compliance in March.
In his new role, Hook will be responsible for maintaining a dialogue with global regulators and overseeing the company's compliance with applicable laws and regulations. He will also be responsible for developing and implementing the company's risk management framework.
Hook has a long history in the financial services industry, with experience in both traditional finance and cryptocurrency. He previously worked for mobile payments platform Circle, where he conducted anti-money laundering (AML) and know-your-customer (KYC) compliance.
Hook also has experience in the public sector, having served as an assistant district attorney in the cybercrime and identity theft unit at the New York County District Attorney's Office.
“Paul is a proven leader with deep experience in financial services and cryptocurrency compliance,” said Brian Armstrong, CEO of Coinbase. “He is a valuable addition to our team and I am confident that he will help us continue to grow and scale responsibly.”
