Since its launch in 2020, Microsoft Edge has been plagued by a reputation as a "browser you only use to download Chrome." Now, the new Chromium-based Edge is trying to change that by showing users a pop-up warning when they go to download Chrome.
The pop-up says:
* "Microsoft Edge uses the same technology as Chrome, with the trust of Microsoft."
* "'I hate saving money,' no one has said that. Microsoft Edge is the best browser for online shopping."
* "That is the browser of 2008. Do you know what new? Microsoft Edge."
This is just the latest escalation in the browser wars between Edge and Chrome. Currently, when users log in to Google services with Edge (or any other browser other than Chrome), they will also receive a notice "suggesting" that they download and install Google Chrome.
As the supplier of the Windows operating system, Microsoft certainly has more opportunities to promote Edge. And this new move shows that they are taking advantage of those opportunities directly.
