Instead of expanding into new markets, Kraken will focus on providing its existing services to a wider range of customers in Europe and North America.
"We're looking to provide as much global access as possible to our services where they're applicable," Powell said.
Kraken's decision to cut back on its global expansion comes as the cryptocurrency market continues to struggle. The exchange has also been hit hard by the recent collapse of several major cryptocurrency companies, including Celsius Network and Three Arrows Capital.
Powell said that Kraken is well-positioned to weather the current market downturn, as it has a strong balance sheet and a loyal customer base.
