**State Bank of India pilots blockchain-based system for sharing customer data**
India's largest lender, the State Bank of India (SBI), has piloted a blockchain-based system for sharing customer information between its branches.
The system, called ClearChain, allows for the exchange of data on wire transfers and investigatory reports, including Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs).
It is one of several blockchain projects being pursued by SBI, which is also looking at ways to use the technology to reduce fraud in business lending and for inward remittances.
The project is the latest in a series of blockchain initiatives in India's financial sector. The Reserve Bank of India has also been experimenting with domestic blockchain applications, and other firms in India, including its major stock exchange, are also looking at the technology.
