**FTX Europe ordered to suspend operations by Cyprus regulator**
The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) has ordered FTX Europe Ltd, a subsidiary of cryptocurrency exchange FTX, to suspend its operations.
In a statement, CySEC said that FTX Europe is not licensed to engage in the direct trading of cryptocurrencies. The company is regulated by CySEC under the provisions of the Investment Services Law and is authorised to provide investment services in derivatives and/or other financial instruments.
FTX Europe obtained approval for its domain www.ftx.com/eu from CySEC in March after acquiring local firm K-DNA Financial Services Ltd. The entity was later renamed FTX Europe Ltd. In September, FTX Europe said it had secured a CySEC license to operate as a Cyprus investment firm.
The exchange said at the time that the CySEC license enabled it to "serve the whole European Economic Area," which includes the EU as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.
FTX Europe's parent company, FTX, is headquartered in the Bahamas. The company was hit by a liquidity crunch last week that triggered its collapse. On Thursday, the Bahamas' securities regulator froze FTX's assets in an effort to "preserve and stabilize the company."
