DX.Exchange, a cryptocurrency exchange that allowed investors to trade tokenized shares of major companies, has shut down. The company said in a statement that it was unable to find a buyer and that it would not be able to resume operations.
Customers have until November 15 to withdraw their funds.
“The costs of providing the required level of security, support and technology are not economically feasible on our own,” the company said in the statement.
DX.Exchange launched in January 2019 and allowed investors to trade tokenized shares of companies such as Google, Apple, Amazon, Facebook, Microsoft, Tesla, Netflix, Baidu, Intel Corporation and Nvidia.
The exchange’s closure comes on the heels of Circle’s spin-off of Poloniex, two years after the fintech firm purchased the exchange for $400 million. Circle co-founders Jeremy Allaire and Sean Neville said they plan on shifting focus to its USDC stablecoin and Seedinvest crowdfunding platform.
An undisclosed Asia-based investment group, Polo Digital Assets, Ltd., purchased the exchange.
