**Gibraltar-based Digital Asset Bank Xeo Gets Securities Broker License, Will Offer Crypto and Stocks Trading to European Customers**
Gibraltar-based digital asset bank Xeo has received a securities broker license from the Financial Services Commission of Gibraltar (FSCG), which will allow it to offer customers in Europe the ability to trade S&P 500 stocks like Apple alongside the company's crypto wealth management offering.
In an interview with Blockworks, Xeo CEO Sebastian Rocca said that the company's target customer is not the typical 25-year-old Gen Z investor who wants to trade crypto.
"It's a slightly older demographic who bought bitcoin a few years ago to hold and use as a pension pot, or perhaps to buy a property when the price is right," Rocca said. "They want a diversified portfolio with some stocks, a savings account that earns interest, as well as a bitcoin allocation."
Xeo was founded in 2013 as a bitcoin wallet and cold storage provider. In 2017, the company sold its enterprise business to Coinbase and pivoted to focus on retail customers.
In 2019, Xeo began the process of obtaining a banking license from the FSCG. The company was granted a license in March 2022.
Rocca said that Xeo is the first digital asset bank in Europe to offer both crypto and stocks trading.
"We see a huge opportunity to bridge the gap between crypto and traditional finance," Rocca said. "We believe that crypto is a powerful tool for wealth creation, but it's important to have a diversified portfolio that includes both crypto and traditional assets."
Xeo is also planning to add Ethereum to its platform in the coming months.
