Coinbase has clarified how it will handle the upcoming Bitcoin Cash hard fork, which is expected to result in two separate blockchains.
In a blog post, the exchange said that it will continue to list the current Bitcoin blockchain under the name "Bitcoin" and the ticker symbol "BTC". The forked blockchain, which will be created by miners who choose to adopt the Segwit2x protocol, will be referred to as "Bitcoin2x" and the ticker symbol "B2X".
Coinbase said that it may change the names of these blockchains in the future if "segwit2x receives widespread acceptance in the user community."
The exchange also said that it has no plans to support Bitcoin Gold, another cryptocurrency that is scheduled to split off from Bitcoin in the coming weeks.
"We believe that Bitcoin Gold is not a viable long-term solution for the Bitcoin network," Coinbase said. "We will reconsider our position if Bitcoin Gold proves its value over time."
