**Shenzhen Stock Exchange Plans to Launch Blockchain-themed ETF**
The Shenzhen Stock Exchange is planning to launch a blockchain-themed ETF, which would track and reflect the performance of Shenzhen-listed companies that have businesses in the blockchain industry.
If approved by the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC), the ETF would be the first blockchain-themed ETF to be open to public investors in the country.
The application for the ETF was submitted at the same time that the Shenzhen Stock Exchange rolled out a blockchain 50 Index, which is comprised of 50 stocks listed on the exchange that have entered the blockchain space.
The Shenzhen Exchange said in an announcement on December 24 that the index tracks companies that are involved in different aspects of the blockchain ecosystem and selects the top 50 by market capitalization.
The current index list includes software companies, banks including Ping An Bank, as well as internet companies that have entered cryptocurrency mining such as Bitmain, which invested $80 million in bitcoin miners in 2018.
