Lawmakers from the ruling Democratic Party of Korea (DPK), the Liberty Korea Party (LKP) and the opposition Bareun Mirae Party are planning to introduce separate bills on the legal status of cryptocurrencies and necessary conditions for cryptocurrency trading.
Oh Se-jung, the head of the Bareun Mirae Party’s cryptocurrency policy analysis team, emphasized that security measures when trading cryptocurrencies must be further enhanced to protect users.
South Korean authorities are gradually changing their stance on cryptocurrencies. Last month, the government announced plans to lift the ICO ban that was imposed in September 2017, while the Ministry of Science and Technology has been determined to strengthen cooperation with the United States in promoting “the way.Tech network 4.0” based on blockchain.
Earlier this month, South Korea announced that it was drafting new industry classification standards for the domestic blockchain industry. The new classification framework, which is reportedly set to be rolled out by the end of July, will serve as the basis for policy making aimed at promoting blockchain technology with legal frameworks.
