**Brazilian bank Bradesco completes first tokenized bond transaction**
Bradesco, Brazil's second-largest bank by assets, has completed the first tokenized bond transaction in the country, the company said in a statement.
The bank issued a 10 million Brazilian real ($1.95 million) bond that was tokenized on the blockchain-based platform of Brazilian digital asset startup Atomyze. The transaction was settled under the Brazilian central bank's regulatory sandbox, which allows banks to test innovative financial products and services.
"This is a relevant milestone for the financial market, as it is the first time that a regulated financial institution has issued a tokenized bond," Bradesco said in the statement.
Other banks have also recently embarked on the Brazilian tokenization market. In December, Santander issued 40 million Brazilian reals ($7.8 million) in tokenized bonds to Indigo, a parking management company.
In July 2022, Itaú Unibanco, Brazil's largest private bank, announced the launch of its own tokenization platform, Itaú Digital Assets. In addition to tokenization, the firm also offers crypto custody and token as a service (TaaS) products.
