Blockstack, a decentralized internet platform, has launched its Bitcoin node on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Marketplace. The move is aimed at simplifying the process of setting up a Bitcoin node and speeding up blockchain sync times.
According to Blockstack, a new feature called Fastsync has been implemented in the latest Blockstack Core version 0.14.1, which is now available on AWS. Fastsync allows Blockstack nodes to fetch just the latest state, authenticated by Blockstack, from a remote node and use that to sync with the network. This significantly reduces the amount of time it takes to sync a Bitcoin node, which can currently take several days.
Blockstack nodes are different from traditional Bitcoin Core clients in that they do not download the entire blockchain, which is now over 100GB in size. Instead, Blockstack nodes fetch just the latest state from a remote node and use that to sync with the network.
