A new survey from PwC shows that blockchain adoption is accelerating, but still has a long way to go.
The survey, which polled over 600 executives from financial services firms, found that 77% of respondents expect some sort of live implementation of blockchain by 2020. However, only 20% of respondents said they plan to invest in blockchain in the next 12 months.
Despite the lack of investment, the survey found that blockchain is gaining traction in the financial services industry. For example, 90% of payment companies surveyed said they are "heavily invested" in blockchain and plan to adopt the technology as part of a production system by 2020.
The survey also found that the most likely business use cases for early blockchain implementations are payments infrastructure, fund transfer infrastructure, and digital identity management.
