The company said it is currently operating with 2.3 exahash per second (EH/s) of Bitcoin mining hashrate, down from 4.6 EH/s in mid-June.
"We are taking this measure to preserve our liquidity and runway while we continue to evaluate the current market conditions," said CEO Emiliano Grodzki in a statement.
The move comes as Bitcoin miners have been struggling with high energy costs and falling Bitcoin prices. The valuations of Bitcoin miners have also been hit hard by the bankruptcies of Compute North and Core Scientific (CORZ) and the looming possibility of more companies filing for Chapter 11 protection like Green Generation (GREE).
Bitfarms has not been spared. Its stock is down 92% this year, and the company has a market cap of just $85 million.
The company has been trying to reduce its debt burden to stay afloat. Last month, it paid down $27 million in an effort to improve its balance sheet.
Bitfarms, which mostly uses hydroelectric energy to mine Bitcoin, has 10 mining centers located in Canada, the U.S., Paraguay and Argentina. Its shares were up 3.5% in premarket trading on Thursday.
