**Bitcoin Futures Volume Surges to Record High as Price Soars to 11-Month High**
The volume of bitcoin futures traded on institutional exchanges surged to a record high on Monday as the price of the cryptocurrency climbed to an 11-month high.
The total volume of bitcoin futures traded on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) and Bakkt reached $1.32 billion, up 570% from the previous day and the highest daily volume since February.
The surge in volume came as bitcoin broke above $10,400, a key technical level that has acted as support in recent months.
“The price rise was a combination of increasing retail demand and institutional volumes,” said Chris Thomas, head of digital assets at Swissquote Bank.
“However, bitcoin now looks overbought and we could soon see a healthy correction, especially with the global outlook increasingly uncertain and the price of bitcoin still trading at levels not seen since March.”
Joel Kruger, a cryptocurrency strategist at LMAX Digital, told CoinDesk that bitcoin’s supply could also increase in the coming months, putting additional downward pressure on the price.
“The bitcoin supply – which fell to a 12-month low in Q2 – might now increase again as miners look to sell their coins on the open market,” he said.
The cryptocurrency has pulled back from Monday’s high of $11,394 to around $10,700 at the time of writing.
