Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, has received preliminary approval from Bahrain's central bank to become a crypto asset service provider in the country.
The approval comes as Binance continues to expand its operations in the Middle East. In December, the company signed an agreement with the Dubai World Trade Center Authority (DWTCA) to help establish Dubai as a new industry hub for global virtual assets.
Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao welcomed the news of the preliminary approval from Bahrain's central bank, saying that it was a "great step forward."
"Regulatory clarity is so very important," Zhao tweeted. "This new virtual asset law in Dubai is a great step forward."
Binance has already received regulatory approval in several other countries, including Malta, Lithuania, and Uganda.
The company is also reportedly seeking approval to operate in the United Kingdom.
