**Origin Protocol, a decentralized marketplace platform, has hired former YouTube executive Jason Pan as its head of business development.**
Pan, who spent more than five years at YouTube, most recently as director of product management for the company’s shopping business, will be responsible for developing Origin’s business partnerships and driving growth.
“Jason is a proven leader with a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the digital media and commerce industries,” said Origin co-founder Matthew Liu. “We’re thrilled to have him join our team as we build the future of decentralized commerce.”
Pan said he was drawn to Origin because of its potential to disrupt the traditional retail model.
“I believe that Origin Protocol has the potential to revolutionize the way that commerce is done,” he said. “I’m excited to join the team and help make that vision a reality.”
Origin Protocol recently raised $12 million in a funding round led by Polychain Capital. The company has also received backing from notable investors such as Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian, former Y Combinator partner Garry Tan and venture capital firm Foundation Capital.
In December, the company announced that it had sold $3 million worth of its tokens to venture fund Pantera Capital.
Origin Protocol is one of a number of startups that are developing decentralized marketplaces. These platforms aim to cut out the middlemen and provide users with a more direct way to buy and sell goods and services.
