Yuga Labs, the company behind the popular Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT collection, has warned the NFT community of a persistent threat group that has been targeting NFT projects through compromised social media accounts.
The warning comes just days after hackers attacked the popular NFT platform Premint NFT, stealing about 314 NFTs and $375,000.
Premint is a service platform that allows artists to access a large number of verified NFT collections quickly, putting them on the whitelist for new NFT projects. Premint offers more than 12,000 NFT projects and databases of more than 2.4 million collectors.
According to the Certik Blockchain Security Company, the attack occurred on July 17 after hackers inserted malicious code into the Premint website. This code created an overlooked window that tricked users into verifying their ownership rights, but instead, provided the logic necessary for them to transfer the NFTs from the victim's wallets.
The six wallets that were identified as the victims of the attack contained NFTs from collections including Bored Ape Yacht Club, Otherside, Oddities, and Goblintown.
Premint said that they are continuing to investigate the incident and reminded users that they will never be asked to sign any type of transaction on the platform.
