**BTC-e users to be able to withdraw 55% of funds, 45% to be issued as debt tokens**
BTC-e, one of the world's largest cryptocurrency exchanges, has announced that users will be able to withdraw 55% of their funds, with the remaining 45% being issued as debt tokens.
The exchange said in a statement that the decision was made in order to compensate users for the funds that were confiscated by authorities in Greece.
“On September 2, 2017, it will be possible to withdraw 55% of the funds from the account…on the condition that our debt obligations are abandoned to the remaining 45% of funds in the form of tokens,” the statement reads.
Users that elect to keep their funds on the site will have their funds transferred to a new domain that will be announced at a later date.
“On the day the site is launched, the balance will be recalculated at the market rate and will be credited to accounts with a higher ratio than 55/45….Tokens will be credited to your account balance, which you can use for bidding and releasing codes,” the exchange said.
The announcement comes after BTC-e was raided by Greek authorities in July. The exchange was accused of facilitating money laundering and tax evasion.
BTC-e has denied the allegations, and has said that it is cooperating with authorities.
