"It's not a surprise to me that inevitably corporations are going after creating their own tokens but for Facebook to be one of the first big ones is is pretty much a surprise," he said.
Benson believes that if Libra is to be successful, it will have to satisfy certain minimum requirements. However, he also believes that the social media giant has an opportunity to demonstrate that there are additional benefits to cryptocurrency, such as increased control and transparency.
"I think that they have an opportunity to show that there's an additional level of control and transparency that might be benefits of cryptocurrency that maybe weren't even possible before," he said.
