Victory Capital has filed with the SEC to launch a spot Bitcoin ETF, joining a growing list of firms seeking regulatory approval for a product that would allow investors to gain exposure to the cryptocurrency without having to buy it directly.
The SEC is reviewing more than a dozen similar applications and has yet to approve a single one. Some applications have had their approval windows extended more than once.
Victory Capital revealed its plans to enter the crypto market in June with a private fund tracking the Nasdaq Crypto Index (NCI), which is aimed at accredited investors.
The firm also announced its intention to launch private funds that mirrored equivalent Nasdaq indexes tracking the performance of Bitcoin and Ether.
