The price of Bitcoin has fallen to $6,800 after the South Korean cryptocurrency exchange Upbit was hacked and $50 million worth of altcoins were stolen.
Upbit has announced that it will suspend withdrawals while it investigates the hack. The CEO of the exchange said that "to ensure that the property of a person is not affected, 342,000 ETH will be moved from the platform into a mysterious wallet address that will be returned by upbit property."
The hack is the latest in a series of bad news for the cryptocurrency market this week, which has also seen China take a more negative stance on cryptocurrencies.
The total market capitalization of the cryptocurrency industry is currently only $191.4 billion, with Bitcoin accounting for 66.2% of the total value.
