Umee, a cross-chain DeFi protocol that allows users to earn interest on their crypto assets across multiple blockchains, has raised $20 million in a Series A funding round led by Polychain Capital.
The funding round also included participation from Alameda Research, Coinbase Ventures, Binance Labs, and others.
Umee was founded in 2021 by Brent Xu, who previously worked at ConsenSys and Tendermint. The company's mission is to make DeFi more accessible and interoperable by building bridges between different blockchains.
“Our flagship product right now is cross-chain interest rates,” Xu told CoinDesk. “We’re using bridge technology to connect between Ethereum and other blockchain ecosystems.”
Umee is currently live on the Cosmos Hub and Ethereum mainnet, and it plans to support other blockchains in the future.
“We’re very excited about expanding the ecosystem,” Xu said. “Not many teams have the same access to engineers as us.”
