**U.S. Releases National Strategy for Blockchain Development**
The White House released a national strategy for blockchain development on Thursday, calling for the U.S. to invest in, develop, adopt, and promote the technology.
The strategy, which was developed by the National Security Council (NSC), lists blockchain as one of six priority technologies that will be essential to U.S. economic competitiveness and national security.
The other priority technologies are artificial intelligence (AI), data science, quantum computing, "space technologies," weapons of mass destruction mitigation technologies, and others.
The NSC's strategy does not include specific funding levels or a concrete roadmap for implementation. However, it does call for the creation of a "whole-of-government" approach to blockchain development, with coordination between federal agencies, state and local governments, and the private sector.
Pockets of the U.S. government are already investing in blockchain infrastructure, with the Department of Homeland Security being the most public about its efforts. The U.S. military is also examining blockchain for potential use in combat operations, but efforts are still in their early stages.
China and Russia have also been investing in blockchain development, with China launching a state-sanctioned distributed network for hosting dapps and internet services earlier this year. It is not clear where Russia stands on state-sponsored blockchain use cases.
