**CFTC Lab Director Daniel Gorfine Departs for MIT Media Lab**
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) announced Friday that Daniel Gorfine, director of its Lab for Innovation, will be leaving the agency to join the MIT Media Lab.
In a statement, CFTC Chairman Heath P. Tarbert said Gorfine had “played a critical role in helping the CFTC stay ahead of the curve on emerging technologies.”
Gorfine, who joined the CFTC in 2017, launched the Lab for Innovation to help regulatory policy keep pace with a rapidly changing industry.
The Lab has published a series of educational primers on blockchain and smart contracts, and has also forged collaborative arrangements and shared policy with other regulators, including the UK Financial Conduct Authority, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, and the Monetary Authority of Singapore.
“With Dan’s vision and the support of the commission, labcftt has established itself as a model for regulatory engagement with emerging technology,” Tarbert said.
Gorfine will be leaving the CFTC on March 8. He will start his new role at MIT on March 14.
