Tether, the issuer of the world's largest stablecoin, will provide more details on its reserves following a settlement with the New York Attorney General's office.
The company agreed to pay $18.5 million last year to settle claims that it misled investors about the backing of its USDT tokens.
As part of the settlement, Tether and its sister company Bitfinex agreed to submit quarterly statements showing the stablecoin issuer's assets.
Tether has previously said that its reserves are backed by a mix of cash, cash equivalents, and other assets.
However, the company has been reluctant to provide more details about its reserves.
In a statement published Friday, Tether said that it would provide more details on its reserves in accordance with the settlement agreement.
"The settlement specified what information should be disclosed publicly (i.e., a breakdown of Tether's reserves by category) and what should be disclosed privately to NYAG (such as particular investment details)," the company said.
"The private aspects are that no business would publish for the competition to exploit."
The settlement agreement stipulated that Tether would publish the categories of assets backing Tether on a quarterly basis for two years.
It also said that Tether would specify the percentages of each category and whether any other category constituting a loan or receivable or similar is to an affiliated entity.
Tether has been sued by the New York Attorney General's office for allegedly misleading investors about the backing of its USDT tokens.
The company has denied the allegations.
In August, Tether and Bitfinex filed a lawsuit against the New York Attorney General's office to prevent it from providing CoinDesk with documents detailing its reserves.
CoinDesk is an independent cryptocurrency news outlet that has reported extensively on Tether.
In its lawsuit, Tether alleged that CoinDesk is seeking the documents because its parent company, Digital Currency Group (DCG), is an investor in Circle, the issuer of the competing stablecoin USDC.
DCG also backs Blockstream, developer of the Liquid Network, a sidechain of Bitcoin and one of several systems Tether uses to issue USDT.
