**GMO Launches New Zcash Mining Software, Will Take 2% Fee**
Japanese cryptocurrency exchange GMO Coin has launched a new Zcash mining software, which it says will be more efficient than existing software.
The software is available for download for free, but GMO will take a 2% cut of users' mining profits to cover development costs.
GMO says the software is designed specifically for miners using NVIDIA graphics cards to mine Zcash, and claims it offers a 2% efficiency gain over other software.
The launch of the new software comes despite a decline in profits from GMO's Bitcoin mining business in recent months.
In August, GMO reported a profit of $2.3 million in the second quarter of this year, but the majority of that came from its cryptocurrency exchange business.
"Mining profitability declined due to deterioration of the macro environment and the stagnation of Bitcoin price," the company said at the time.
Despite the decline in mining profits, GMO has continued to invest in the sector. In June, the company announced the launch of one of the world's first Bitcoin miners to feature a 7nm ASIC processor.
The new Zcash mining software will face stiff competition, however, as the Zcash community has voted not to prioritize efforts to revise the Zcashchain's code in order to be ASIC-resistant.
That decision followed debate earlier this year in which cryptocurrency mining giant Bitmain launched a dedicated ASIC mining machine for Zcash, which could make GPU or CPU (central processing unit) mining much less attractive for small-scale miners.
