**CBOE President Predicts SEC Approval of Ether Futures**
Chris Concannon, President of CBOE Global Markets, believes that the recent statement from the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that Ether is not a security will help the exchange persuade the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to approve the listing of Ether futures.
"We are very pleased with the decision to clarify the legal side of Ether transactions at the present time," Concannon said in an interview with Bloomberg. "That statement has helped to remove the rock on the path to the Ether future contract, a goal that we have always considered from the launch of the first Bitcoin future contract in December 2017."
On June 14, SEC Director William Hinman said that the commission does not intend to regulate Ether as a security. This positive news helped to boost the cryptocurrency market after a week of sell-offs.
Hinman said that, despite the initial distribution of ETH, this type of property has become decentralized enough to no longer meet the criteria for being considered a security.
"Leaving aside the capital-raising process that accompanied the creation of Ether, based on my personal views about the current state of Ether, the Ethereum network and its decentralized structure, issuance and offering of Ether today is not a security transaction," Hinman said.
