Ethereum scaling solution Starkware has announced a partnership with Chainlink, making the leading oracle solution a data provider for Starknet, the upcoming layer-2 zk-rollup.
Starkware says its solution has processed over 300 million transactions, secured over $800 billion in assets, and issued over 95 million NFTs. Meanwhile, Chainlink's oracle network is the leading provider of real-world data to the cryptocurrency industry, with over $7 trillion in total value locked.
Starknet's token, STRK, which was announced in November 2022 but has not yet been released, will be used to pay for part of the operating costs of Chainlink's oracles. The partnership will allow developers building on Starknet to connect their projects to Chainlink's decentralized and secure data feeds, ensuring the smooth operation of smart contracts.
Chainlink is already providing data to Starknet's testnet and will be ready to deploy to the mainnet in the near future, once Starkware is confident that the layer-2 is ready.
Chainlink founder Sergey Nazarov said:
"We are excited to welcome Starknet to the Chainlink ecosystem and support their oracle services on Starknet. By reducing the cost of operating oracle nodes, Starknet will be able to accelerate the development of its ecosystem and become an even more attractive environment for web3 developers."
On February 5, Starkware also announced that it has open-sourced the code for StarkNet Prover, an important part of Starknet, allowing the cryptocurrency community to audit the project's programming security.
