**South Korea : Calls grow for crypto oversight body after Terra collapse**
Following the collapse of Terra last month, calls have grown in South Korea for the establishment of a single body with oversight of the digital assets industry, providing protections comparable to those afforded to stock market investors.
Currently, supervision of the crypto industry is handled by a range of government departments.
“We need to make exchanges play their role, and toward that end it is crucial for watchdogs to supervise them thoroughly,” Rep. Sung Il-jong of the ruling People Power Party said at a National Assembly emergency seminar last week.
Around 280,000 South Koreans are believed to have been affected by the plunge in the value of the Terra stablecoin UST and its sister token Luna.
