South Korea's Financial Services Commission (FSC) has announced that it will ban anonymous bitcoin trading accounts. The move comes after the head of the country's financial regulator warned against the bitcoin bubble.
“Only accounts with real and matching identities can be allowed for deposit and withdrawals,” said FSC chairman Choi Jong-kug.
The government's ban on using anonymous accounts is seen as the latest move to curb the trading activity around cryptocurrencies in the country. It follows recent reports that government bodies were considering measures to halt what they called an “overheating of virtual currency speculation.”
The FSC said that the Financial Intelligence Unit and the Financial Supervisory Service will implement the regulation and supervise exchanges to abide by the new rule.
