**Singapore, Switzerland and France to launch CBDC pilot for foreign exchange**
The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), the central banks of Switzerland and France, and the BIS Innovation Hub centres in Singapore and Switzerland will launch a pilot project for a central bank digital currency (CBDC) for foreign exchange and liquidity management.
The project, called Project Mariana, will explore the use of CBDCs for cross-border foreign exchange transactions between the Swiss franc, euro and Singapore dollar. It will also look at how CBDCs can be used to improve liquidity management and settlement efficiency.
The project is part of MAS's ongoing efforts to explore the potential of CBDCs. In July, MAS launched Project Ubin+, a collaboration with 17 other central banks and commercial banks to test the cross-border interoperability of CBDCs.
MAS said that it is also participating in the Swift CBDC Sandbox, a collaboration with SWIFT and 17 other central banks and commercial banks to test the cross-border interoperability of CBDCs.
