**Singapore's central bank says it has completed a successful trial of using blockchain technology for interbank payments.**
The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) said in a statement that the test, which involved four local banks, showed that blockchain could be used to settle payments in a secure and efficient way.
MAS said it plans to conduct two further trials of blockchain technology for payments, one to link Singapore's payments system with other countries and the other to explore its use for securities settlement.
**“The results of the interbank payments trial are encouraging and show that blockchain has the potential to improve the efficiency and security of payments,” said Sopnendu Mohanty, MAS’s chief fintech officer.**
**MAS said it would continue to work with the banks to explore the potential of blockchain technology for payments and other financial applications.**
