The cryptocurrency market rebounded on Wednesday, with Bitcoin and Ether rising to their highest levels since November. The global crypto market capitalization increased 8.8% to reach $2.2 trillion, erasing losses from the contagion effects stemming from the collapse of Three Arrows Capital and troubles at crypto lender Celsius Network.
Bitcoin rose 7.6% to $24,500, while Ether climbed 11.3% to $1,600. The two largest cryptocurrencies by market capitalization led a market-wide recovery, with tokens of layer 1 blockchains Solana (SOL) and Polygon's Matic adding 10% each.
“The crypto market is recovering from a sharp sell-off that was triggered by the collapse of Three Arrows Capital and the liquidity crisis at Celsius Network,” said Vijay Ayyar, head of international at crypto exchange Luno. “The market is still reeling from these events, but there are signs of recovery as investors buy the dip.”
The recovery in the crypto market comes as risk assets such as stocks also rebounded. The S&P 500 index rose 1.5% on Wednesday, while the Nasdaq Composite index gained 2.3%.
“The crypto market is closely correlated to the stock market, so it is not surprising to see that it is recovering along with stocks,” said Ayyar. “However, the crypto market is still volatile, and investors should be cautious.”
