**SEC rejects 9 Bitcoin ETFs from Direxion and Graniteshares**
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has rejected 9 Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) from Direxion and Graniteshares.
The SEC published three rulings on the proposals early this morning (August 23). The agency used the same reason, even the style of writing, in all decisions to reject its Bitcoin ETFs.
In the case of two proposals, the SEC wrote:
"The Commission is denying this proposed rule change because, as discussed below, the exchange has not met its burden under the Exchange Act and the Commission's rules of practice to demonstrate that its proposal is consistent with the requirements of Section 6(b)(5) of the Exchange Act, which requires that the rules of a national securities exchange be designed to prevent fraud, manipulation, and other abuses."
The SEC also emphasized that "the Commission's disapproval does not rest on a finding that Bitcoin, or blockchain technology more generally, has no utility or value as a potential improvement to the efficiency of the financial system or as a tool for legitimate private commerce."
Similar sentences and arguments were reused by the SEC in its decisions to reject five ETFs from Direxion and two from Graniteshares.
This latest rejection comes just a few weeks after the SEC also decided not to approve the Winklevoss twins' Bitcoin ETF proposal and to delay its decision on the VanEck/SolidX Bitcoin ETF proposal until September 30.
