**Riot Blockchain Stock Soars 150% This Year on Bitcoin Rally**
Riot Blockchain (NASDAQ: RIOT) stock has soared more than 150% this year, as the company has benefited from the recent rally in bitcoin (BTC) prices.
The company, which mines bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, has seen its stock price climb from around $2.30 at the start of the year to a high of $4.58 on Thursday.
Riot Blockchain is scheduled to release its Q2 earnings report early next week.
In a statement to CoinDesk, CEO Jeff McGonegal said the company's rally is connected to the increasing investor attention paid to bitcoin and cryptocurrencies generally.
"We're strong believers in the macroeconomic fundamentals underlying bitcoin," McGonegal said.
Riot has a current mining capacity of 357 petahash per second, and expects to increase that to 566 petahash by Q4.
Even with recent gains, however, the shares are a far cry from their all-time intraday high of $3638.40, reached in October 2007.
