**Protocol Labs, the company behind Filecoin, announced today that it is laying off 89 employees.** The layoffs come as the crypto industry continues to be hit hard by a bear market.
In a blog post, Protocol Labs CEO Juan Benet said that the company is making the layoffs "in response to the current macroeconomic climate."
"High inflation leading to high interest rates, low investment and tougher markets have rocked companies and industries globally," he wrote. "The macro winter worsened crypto winter, making it more extreme and potentially longer than our industry expected."
