**Ethereum 2.0 Phase 0 Launch Date: Q1 2021**
Ethereum Foundation researcher Justin Drake said in an AMA session on Reddit that the launch of Ethereum 2.0 Phase 0 could happen in Q1 2021.
Drake said that the launch of Phase 0 will only happen after the public testnet has been running smoothly with 3 or more clients for 2-3 months and the bug bounty program on Bounty.ether.org has been running for 2-3 months.
He added that he believes the Genesis block will be created in mid-November, but the earliest date for the launch of the Genesis block is January 3, 2021, which is the 12th anniversary of Bitcoin.
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has previously said that the launch of Phase 0 will only happen once the client network has been successfully tested.
Lead developer Danny Ryan said at the Consensus 2020 conference that having multiple clients running on the network is an important security measure.
"If a serious bug occurs with one client, the network can continue to operate because not all nodes are running that client," Ryan said.
Buterin responded to Ryan's comments in a message to Drake, saying:
"I personally disagree with this and would rather err on the side of launching Phase 0 regardless of readiness."
