**Ethereum Foundation to Partner with VEB to Support Russian Blockchain Development**
The Ethereum Foundation, the non-profit organization that oversees development of the Ethereum blockchain, has announced a partnership with VEB, a Russian state-owned development bank. The partnership will see the Ethereum Foundation provide specialist training for distributed ledger technology and the Ethereum platform to VEB employees, and will also support the formation of projects based on Ethereum and other blockchains.
“Cooperation between Ethereum and VEB gives a unique opportunity to engage in research and development on the use of blockchain technology for public administration and accelerate the adaptation of this technology to government organizations in the Russian Federation,” said Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin in a statement.
The partnership is part of a series of steps that Russia is taking towards blockchain implementation nationwide. In July, the country’s central bank announced plans to create a digital ruble, and in September, the government launched a blockchain-based platform for tracking agricultural products.
The Ethereum Foundation has previously partnered with other government organizations, including the European Commission and the United Nations. The organization has also been involved in a number of projects to develop blockchain-based applications for the public sector.
