**Switzerland's Stock Exchange to Explore Digital Franc**
The Swiss Stock Exchange (SIX) has announced a new project to explore the potential of a digital Swiss franc.
The project, which is being carried out in collaboration with the Swiss National Bank (SNB), will look at the technical and operational aspects of issuing a digital franc on the SIX Digital Exchange (SDX) platform.
It will also examine the potential benefits of a digital franc, such as reducing counterparty risk and facilitating financial innovation.
SIX said that the project would not result in the immediate issuance of a digital franc, but would provide valuable insights into the potential benefits and challenges of such a move.
“Our proof of concept on the subject of digital central bank money for financial market participants on DLT platforms will not only provide technological insights, but will also send an important signal to all market participants to take steps to explore DLT technology and digital assets,” said Thomas Zeeb, Head of Digital Assets at SIX.
SIX has been a pioneer in the adoption of blockchain technology, and has already launched a number of crypto-based exchange-traded products.
The exchange is also preparing to launch its own digital assets exchange, having announced a prototype platform late last month.
