**Russian Bank Rosbank Partners with Atomyze to Issue Palladium-Backed Digital Tokens**
Russian Bank Rosbank has partnered with blockchain company Atomyze to issue the first digital asset backed by palladium, called the “palladium token”.
The platform was approved in February 2022 to become the country’s first legal asset manager.
Both Atomyze and Rosbank are supported by Interros, a Russian investment group co-founded by Vladimir Potanin.
Potanin said the launch of the palladium token was a major milestone, marking a new era for the Russian economy – the “crypto era”.
He also expressed his belief that digital financial assets issued by Atomyze will eventually overtake cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin (BTC).
“Unlike cryptocurrencies, [palladium tokens] are backed by physical assets and the use of blockchain technology makes transactions more reliable, convenient and transparent,” he said.
“Tokens will defeat cryptocurrencies and push them to the sidelines of the digital economy.”
Despite being called a “palladium token”, the product has the characteristics of a stablecoin pegged to precious metals and ROSBank can convert them back to cash corresponding to the market value of palladium.
The world’s largest stablecoin issuers such as Tether and Paxos have launched gold-backed stablecoins a few years ago.
